Cloves are one of the original ancient spices, and our first ever product. Naturally, we know them inside out. These Cloves are freshly flown in from the Spice Islands in Indonesia each season. Each glows a gorgeous exotic red colour, and adds a flavour like no other cloves can dream to produce. Popular in many high end and simple traditional cooking, cloves can be used almost anywhere to add lovely fruity, peppery and herbal flavours.
Cloves are a pungent spice found in savoury dishes, desserts, and drinks. Ground or whole cloves flavour meat, sauces, and rice dishes. Cloves are often used along with cinnamon and nutmeg in sweet dishes, especially "pumpkin pie" flavoured items for the autumn and winter holidays, and in drinks such as mulled wine, cider, or chai.
Cloves are often found studding a holiday ham, in Indian biryani dishes, or in pumpkin pie spiced drinks and desserts. It is also one of the key spices used in making the classic béchamel sauce.
Whole cloves are either removed before serving or picked out of the dish. Even when cooked, whole cloves have a very hard, woody texture that would be unpleasant to bite into.
